Jimmie W. Evans, age 75, passed away on December 1, 2023. He was born on February 13, 1948, in Miami, Florida, to Elinor Frances Wood and Euclin “Tex” Evans. His stepfather was James R. Galbraith. Jim spent the first years of his life in Cuba and Haiti. He also spent time in Pampa, Texas, where his biological father lived. He came to Grants, NM, with his mother and stepdad when he was 8 years old and lived here for the remainder of his life. Jim was in the Army during the Viet Nam War, where he served as a medic at Tripler Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii for 3 years. He returned to New Mexico and attended college at UNM where he met his first wife, with whom he had one son, Zachary Evans. He later worked as a miner for Homestake Mine and became a certified welder during the mining boom in Grants. Jim retired from Tri-State Power Plant where he worked as a Journeyman Electrician. He met his wife, Beverly Michael, in 1983 and they were married in 1986. Jim was many things during his lifetime, but what he will be remembered most for is his art. Jim’s paintings will live on in perpetuity and will continue to be loved by all who see them. He will be missed.
Jim is survived by his wife Beverly Michael of Grants; his son Zac Evans and his wife Virginia Milstead and his twin granddaughters Tess and Esther of Sherman Oaks, CA; his brother Bob Evans of Sun City, AZ; and sister Susan (Galbraith) Williamson of Albuquerque, NM. He is preceded in death by his sister Gail Tillman of Hollywood, FL; and his mother, father and stepfather.
A private viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Mt. Taylor Mortuary. A Celebration of Life will be held in the future for all his friends, family and loved ones. Fly with the Valkyrie Jim. We will see you on the other side.
