NMAA Board Summary, December 12, 2024

The New Mexico Activities Association’s Board of Directors met in regular session on Thursday, December 12th at 1030am in the NMAA Hall of Pride and Honor.

Executive Director Dusty Young gave the Director's Report which included information pertaining to NMAA Fall Championships, recent Commission & Board elections, the upcoming monthly athletic directors’ meeting and eligibility workshop, and the addition and introduction of two new staff members Business Manager Shari Kessler-Schwaner presented the NMAA Financial Report which included financials and ticket sales numbers for all 2024 Fall State Championships. The Board also voted to approve the NMAA 990 for 2023-2024.

Assistant Director Jackie Martinez presented the NMAA Activities Report which included information pertaining to the recent One Act Play state competition and upcoming activity events to be held in the spring.

Commissioner of Officials Carl Vigil presented the New Mexico Officials Association Report which included information pertaining to the recent NMOA Executive Board election and meeting, fall championship officials’ assignments, officials training opportunities, DragonFly, and officials numbers for winter sports.

Assistant Director Zac Stevenson presented a report about Officials Assignments/ Exclusions.

Executive Director Dusty Young gave the NMAA Foundation Report which included information pertaining to the school grant/support program, scholarship program, and upcoming fundraising events.

Assistant Director Zac Stevenson presented an informational item regarding the NMAA’s inaugural State Marching Band Competition.

Assistant Director Jackie Martinez presented an informational item pertaining to the first ever NMAA Middle School Cross Country Meet.

The Board of Directors took action on the following items: -Voted in favor of a proposal to adjust the format for the State Softball Championships.

-Voted in favor of a proposal to amend the regular season wrestling officials’ fee schedule.

-Voted in favor of a proposal to change the seeding process for the State Team Tennis Championships.

-Voted in favor of a proposal that adds Overwatch 2 as an approved Esports title beginning in 2025-2026.

-Voted in favor of a proposal to update verbiage pertaining to game contracts.

The Board of Directors also approved the contracts for the NMAA Executive and Associate Director.

The next regular NMAA Board of Directors’ meeting will take place on February 19, 2025.
