First-Ever Women Veterans Recognition Day in Cibola County June 12 | 6–8 p.m. | American Legion Post 80 For the first time in New Mexico, Women Veterans Recognition Day will be officially commemorated in Cibola County. Hosted by American Legion Post 80 in Grants, the event will honor the legacy, service, and continued contributions of women in the U.S. military.
Women veterans and their families are warmly invited to attend this historic celebration on Wednesday, June 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the American Legion hall. Organizers say they are thrilled to finally bring recognition to the many women who have served — often without the visibility or acknowledgment they deserve.
Women Veterans Recognition Day marks the anniversary of the 1948 Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, which allowed women to permanently serve in the regular armed forces.
“This has never been done before locally,” Post 80 member Aaron Dean said, “and we’re proud to help shine a light on the incredible women who wore the uniform.”
Veterans and their families are invited.
