Emily Faye Horn Garrison

Body

Emily Faye Horn Garrison was born May 24, 1933, in Coin, Arkansas to Virgil Horn and Nona Henderson Horn.

When she graduated high school, she and some friends left their Arkansas life and went to work in Washington DC at the Pentagon. On October 8, 1954, she married her husband of 49 years, James C. Garrison. After Jim was discharged from the army, the couple moved quite a bit from Kentucky to Oklahoma (where Jim worked for and received his degree in English) to California, finally settling in Grants, New Mexico, where he taught English. Faye did many jobs but met many people and enjoyed working at Grants Clinic. Over the years Jim and Faye made many lifetime friends in Grants, many of whom were members of their home congregation at Grants Church of Christ. They also helped the Thoreau Church of Christ and had many friends there as well. In 1962 their family would grow to include one daughter, Janice, whom you all know they spoiled rotten. Jim began driving a truck and Faye and Janice would enjoy summers traveling all around the country with him. When they were home, they would enjoy having friends over with lots of food and laughter, as Faye enjoyed cooking for people and singing and game playing. Bridge, 42, and Uno were a few favorites. After Jim's passing in 2003, Faye became a caretaker, caring for friends and others who became friends. She had no credentials except she had taken care of Jim, Janice and her mother, Nona, but she was quite natural at it and people loved her for caring for their loved ones who needed a little extra care. In 2007 she moved to Lubbock to be closer to her family and quickly had requests for caretaking jobs, so she continued her humble service from her new home. Funny enough, many of her friends from Grants also moved to Lubbock to be closer to family, so Faye was a member of the 'Grant Girls,' or GGs for short. They enjoyed many activities, of which meeting at Sugarbakers was one of their favorites. Faye continued to enjoy playing games with her friends from Broadway Church of Christ and loved her class there. Dementia became a thief over time and Faye was its victim. Although it had taken her memory and even her health, Faye had remained sweet and kind. Her caretakers seemed to love her and her sweet spirit.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents: Virgil and Nona Horn; her nephew: Gregory Horn; her husband of 49 years: Jim Garrison; her younger sister: Willa Handley Ingram; and her brother: Foy Horn.
