Ernestine Yazzie, a beacon of love and laughter, graced this world from December 20, 1959, until her peaceful passing on March 29, 2025. Born in the community of Cluewater Lake, she was a daughter to the revered Peter Yazzie and the cherished Mary Begay, whose nurturing spirits undoubtedly laid the foundation for Ernestine’s warmth and kindness.
Throughout her life, Ernestine was a dedicated mother, sister, and friend, enveloping all those she encountered with her genuine affection. She is survived by her loving daughter, Christina Smith, whose heart will forever carry the brilliant memories crafted in the laughter shared with her mother and the joy of visiting out of state in Oklahoma and Phoenix, Arizona, where they created cherished family moments. Ernestine’s legacy extends to her brothers, Tommy and Jimmy Yazzie, and her sister, Marie Singer, each of whom will miss the gentle strength and nurturing presence she brought to their lives.
Ernestine was a woman of simple yet profound pleasures; she found delight in the exuberance of life’s small joys. She adored playing cards and engaging in crossword puzzles, filling her days with a sense of curiosity and community. Embracing nature was another of her cherished interests; she loved embarking on walks, admiring the beauty of the world around her, each step a testament to her appreciation for life’s intricate details.
Though the chapter of her life has concluded, the memories she created remain emblazoned in the hearts of all who knew her. One could always find her laughing with her grandkids, a sound so pure and contagious, echoing the joy she gifted to her family. The bond she shared with her late son, Bennett Smith, is one that time cannot sever, as he remains a part of her story, eternally embedded in her spirit.
