Federico (Fred) Eloy Valdez

Federico (Fred) Eloy Valdez passed away on June 22, 2026, just shy of his 100th birthday.

He and his wife, Epimenia (Eppie) Delgado Valdez, who preceded him in death in January 2017, had 26 direct descendants: six children – Jerry, Gene, Ken, Jeff, Irita and Kevin (who preceded Fred in death at only five weeks old), eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and, shortly before Fred’s passing, one great great-grandchild.

Fred left behind a lasting legacy in the community of Grants. He spent more than 40 years as a teacher and principal, earning the deep respect of students, colleagues, and local families. His commitment to children and education extended to the work of his wife, whom he supported in opening Kiddie Kollege Kindergarten. Together, they helped shape the lives of countless young people in their community.

Beyond his life in education, Fred had a great love of travel and adventure. He and Eppie traveled the world together, creating a lifetime of memories that Fred delighted in sharing with his grandchildren.

A celebratory mass for Fred will be held on Thursday, September 3, at 10:00 a.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church, 244 Luna Avenue NE, Los Lunas, N.M. Visitation will be held prior to the mass at 9:00 a.m. with a rosary following at 9:30 a.m.

A reception will be held following the mass. An interment service for Fred and Eppie will take place on Friday, September 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, N.M.
