James (Jim) McCollam was born in Phoenix AZ on December 16th, 1943.

While attending Arcadia high school he enlisted in the US Navy and served on board the USS Kittyhawk during the Vietnam war. After he was discharged and while working for his father’s construction company he met his sweetheart Sandy Ashcroft in Ganado, AZ. After a whirlwind three-month courtship, they decided on a Sunday to get married the following Wednesday.

They were married for 58 years. Jim worked at the Uranium mines Kerr-McGee, Ranchers, and Gulf before going to work at Plains Escalante Generating Station later to become Tri-State. He worked there for 29 years before retiring in 2010. Jim enjoyed spending time with family and time at the family cabin that he worked so hard to build in the Zuni Mountains.

Jim passed away peacefully on November 12 at home surrounded by family.

He is preceded in death by his Father: Doug Mc-Collam; his mother: Regina Border; and a brother: D.E. McCollam.

He is survived by his wife: Sandy; sons: Shawn and Chad; granddaughter: Megan and her husband Bob McKinnon; great-granddaughter: Delaney and baby on the way.

Per Jim’s wishes only a small family service will be held on the family land in the Zuni Mountains.
