Hard work and determination

Dear Editor:

This past Friday I attended a virtual awards meeting with the New Mexico Solid Waste Authority for RAID Grants. These grants give New Mexico communities the opportunity to apply for these grants to aid them in cleaning up their communities. On Zoom they presented a list of the winners of this grant. The City of Grants had the distinction of being the highest scored application and received almost $9,000.00 to assist the city in cleaning up the tires at the west end of Gabaldon on the Loma. I want to thank Mark Teshima, Public Works Director, Donald Jaramillo, Project Director, and Shannon DeVine, my Assistant, for their encouragement to write this grant. I want to thank the New Mexico Solid Waste Authority for seeing our need and helping up to achieve our goal in cleaning up problem areas.

We had a Cibola County Cleanup in the nestled community of Golden Acres this past Saturday. We had a great turnout and we got to work with a lot of very nice people that worked very hard to improve the cleanliness of Golden Acres. We filled up the roll-offs and made a big difference. I want to thank Pastor Dale Thatcher for setting things up and making this a very successful community cleanup. I want to thank my friend Olin Charley for joining us and helping us out. A big thanks to the Kevin Branum family that went out and cleaned up Old Route 66! Thanks Cibola County for the backhoe and operator that made it so much easier to make this all happen. Of course, a big thank you to Billy Moore and NWNMRSWA for the rolls-offs that make these cleanups possible.

There is only one way to make things happen for our communities. That is hard work and determination to succeed. Let's all do our best to show our pride in living is such a beautiful County by cleaning up our yards and helping our neighbors that are challenged to do so to clean theirs. The cleaner our cities, towns, and villages are, the safer they will be. The end result will be economic prosperity and security and a kindness towards our neighbors will prevail.
