Merry Christmas! Or happy holidays if you don’t observe the Christmas holiday.

Santa Claus comes once a year to spread holiday cheer and joy and in return we leave him milk and cookies (and carrots if you remembered his reindeer). It’s a pretty solid tradeoff, we don’t even have to give him money for gas and we only have to write him once a year with a reminder that we still appreciate all he does for us.

Millions of kids a year write to Santa Claus asking for gifts that would go to parents or siblings instead of to themselves. It is an act of selflessness and charity so pure because there wasn’t a thought of personal gain from it, just unconditional love for the world.

I think we could all learn a lot from this act.

We aren’t fortunate enough to be visited by the ghosts of our past to set us straight and remind us of the importance of loving thy neighbor. Slowing down to smell the newly wintered air and reminding ourselves of the things that bring us joy are selfish acts that keeps us human. We need to remember the good in life, especially in the face of hardship.

This year, 2020, has been rough; now is the time to think of bettering ourselves. We could stand to watch what comes out of our mouth; we could all stand to be kinder.

So, 2020 has been a tough year, but it is nice to know we’re all in this together. Together we will triumph over the virus, but we can’t do it unless we all mask up and get vaccinated.

To all the people of the world who asked Santa for a cure before the end of the year, I thank you.

There are stars in the sky and a better day is on the horizon, thank you to all scientists, doctors and first responders for helping to keep us safe and helping to stop the virus.

Thank you Santa Claus for delivering the vaccine early!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you Cibola.
