Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Boxing Day and a joyful type of every other celebration about to occur. From the Cibola Citizen to you, Happy Holidays!

This is a time where we look back on the year that has passed and we begin to prepare for the new year. In this time of reflection and spiritualism, many can feel lonely and depressed. New Mexico has a number of free resources to help those feeling lonely during this time and all year long.

Call or text 988 for quick mental health support. The New Mexico Crisis and Action Line can be reached at 1-855662-7474.

Residents of Milan have access to the Milan Police Department, call the Police Department at 505-285-3466 for mental health support. Chief Carl Ustupski said that he and his team of officers at MPD are focused on protecting the mental health of the village. Chief Ustupski started a program in the village called You Are Not Alone, allowing village residents to sign up for a daily phone call or visit with either a law enforcement official or chaplain. The visit is just to speak with the resident and make sure that they are okay, and give them someone to chat with.

Grants Police Department is exploring the potential of starting a YANA program, but for Grants residents feeling lonely, don’t forget the 988 hotline. In just a simple text or phone call, someone will be available to chat with you.

The holidays should be a happy time for everyone. Remember to cherish your family, enjoy your meal, and be grateful for your shelter.
