N.M. Cannabis Recreational Act

Dear Editor:

As I read the Cibola Citizen on September 15, 2021, I was somewhat surprised to learn of a proposed groundbreaking for Bright Green Corporation's marijuana growth and research facility on the 5th of October 2021.

Since I know for a fact that the Grants City council has neither discussed or approved any ordinance regarding the new law of the land “N.M. Cannabis Recreational Act” that allows cannabis facilities to operate in the city limits. I was further taken back at the apparent arrogance of Mr. Stockwell by his answers and comments as reported in the article. His attitude makes me wonder what kind of citizen the Bright Green Corporation will be. I am also wondering how Cibola County officials can allow this company to go forward with this project, owing back taxes, as reported in the article, on the property where they propose to build.

The city council will be discussing and writing the ordinance for cannabis in future council meetings, most likely discussing it in a council meeting in a later part of the month of October. The way in which this ordinance is written can and will have an impact on the city and your individual neighborhood. I would urge all citizens to become familiar with the state law regarding cannabis, become educated on what is legal and what is not. Every citizen should get involved by sharing their ideas and suggestions with their city council member on what and how this ordinance should be enacted.

How the ordinance is written will be with us a long time.

The TV station KRQE, channel 13, in Albuquerque has been running a three-part story about some aftereffects that the state of Colorado has experienced after 8 years. Again, I would recommend that every citizen find and listen to that story. You can find it on the KRQE's web site. I especially hope that each city council member and the mayor review carefully the KRQE story and pay attention to those effects that Colorado experienced.
