Cleaning Grants

Dear editor,

The City of Grants took very seriously the task to have a spring cleaning! It began with the members of the Road Crew, the Parks Department, the Maintenance crews, and the Pipes crews cleaning up the weeds and trash along main thoroughfares, such as George Hanash Blvd, Sakalares, and Roosevelt Ave! The City has hired young people to clean up First and Second Streets and to create green spaces and decorative gravel walkways to accentuate the improvements to those two streets!

Last Friday, the Grants Fire Department wanted to do their share towards the cleanup and they gathered their crew together and cleaned up the freeway entrances and exits to our City! Their hard work yielded over 500 lbs of trash! We want each member of the Grants Fire Department to know how much we appreciate their effort to make "Grants the cleanest City in New Mexico"!

This past Saturday we had a great turnout to help us finish the clean up in style! The City Manager and other leaders of the City were there to work hard and make a great contribution to the general cleanliness of the City! We thank each of them for their efforts!

We had community service workers that made a huge contribution with the trash cleanup at Walmart, San Jose Drive, and Gabaldon Drive! We appreciate the hard work of our community service workers! Not only are they serious about meeting their obligations with the courts, but they give back to community with their dedicated labor. Thank you Terry Fletcher for cleaning up Lobo Canyon Road!

A clean community requires a consistent effort from everyone. We can all start by putting litter in it's place and not throwing it out of the windows of our cars. We can keep our yards clean and free of trash, junk, weeds and tall grass. We can keep the lids of our trash cans secured from the crows and the ravens on trash day. Thank you everyone!
