Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor;

President Trump, you have had almost four years to lead the United States and have failed us by your own choosing. Whether it be in foreign policy and domestic policy you have not protected the United States as Commander-in Chief.

Now comes the latest news about your complete disrespect for our military and total disregard for the COVID-19 virus. We the American people have finally borne witness to what happens when they place an incompetent business leader into the Oval Office. Quality of life is not a business decision sir but rather it is a humane choice to be empathetic to those who cannot help themselves.

Joe Biden has that empathy and will return the United States to the era when we were respected internationally because of how we treat our citizens domestically.

This election is a clear choice between those who have never had it so good and those of us who know we can do better. Joe Biden will lead us there.

Fellow citizens, exercise your right to vote to preserve your sacred heritage, promote your children’s future and obtain the blessings of liberty we all cherish.

To restore a sense of decency to the United States rise and vote!

Wishing president a speedy recovery

Dear Editor;

The [Republican] Party and I want to express our support and extend our heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to the First Family. Like the many others around the world and here at home who have contracted this virus, the President and First Lady are taking the proper course to quarantine and to take the appropriate measures for a quick and full recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with President Trump and the First Lady at this difficult time.

AARP - Voters 50 Plus

Dear Editor;

The year of 2020 is a historic election year, and there is so much at stake. These are challenging times, especially for New Mexicans age 50 plus. Our health and financial security are at risk. We must protect ourselves this election.

If congressional and presidential candidates want older voters to support them, they must talk about the issues that matter most to you and me, such as laying out their solutions for protecting Medicare and Social Security, lowering prescription drug prices, and ensuring safe and affordable long-term care.

Any politician who fails to address the health and financial security of 50 plus voters, especially during this pandemic, is out of touch. If a candidate wants to win, they must listen to older voters and address our needs and concerns.

In the last two elections, it was voters age 50 and that determined those races. In 2016, 53 percent of the electorate was 50 plus; in 2018, 59 percent; and the same will decide who wins in the 2020 election.

This year, we will be voting in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. AARP has always been the champion of the 50 plus and is launching the Protect 50+ Voters, a nationwide campaign urging people to vote but to do so safely whether voting by mail or in person at the polls.

AARP New Mexico has been working with local election officials on sharing resources and information to ensure all New Mexicans can vote safely, no matter how they decide to cast their ballot. If you have questions on voting from home, voting early, or voting safely on Election Day, you can find more information at aarp.org/nmvotes

Stay safe and healthy, and don’t delay in preparing to cast your ballots from home or in-person, once early voting begins Saturday, Oct. 17.

Interim State President
