Hard Work Keeps Grants Clean

Dear editor, I believe our prayers have been answered and the rains have brought our County and State the moisture it has been needing for years. But with those rains have come the weeds and the mosquitos! The City of Grants and the Village of Milan have been working hard to abate both of these issues.

Most residents work very hard to keep their yards and properties clean and free of weeds. However, we have many residents that let their weeds get four feet tall and they have to be compelled to do something about it, rather than cutting the weeds down when they are young.

For those that are doing a good job keeping their properties clean and free of weeds, elms, trash and junk, I commend you for being responsible property owners and renters. For the rest, I remind you that the Grants City Ordinance requires every property owner, and renter to keep their properties clean. The fine for non-compliance is $300.00 and up to 30 days in jail.

If we all work together to take care of our properties, we will see fewer and fewer weeds and the mosquito problem will go away. I commend and thank everyone that puts in the hard work to make this happen.

Robert S. Windhorst, Code Enforcement Officer, City of Grants Proper Flag Etiquette

Dear editor, Honor American veterans through proper flag etiquette. 1. Make sure it can wave freely. Never allow the flag to touch the ground or any other object while it is on display. 2. Stand for America.

Salute the American flag as it is hoisted and lowered and while saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Stand at attention with your right hand over your heart and your hat removed.

3. Remember the Dawn-to-Dusk rule. Display the American flag outdoors only between sunrise and sunset, unless illuminated by a spotlight. 4. Position your flag correctly When displaying the American flag indoors, always place it to the right of a speaker or staging area.

5. Know how to show honor. To place the American flag at half-staff, first hoist it to the lowering peak for an instant before lowering it to a halfway position. Honor our veterans and teach your children to do the same.

Thank you! D.L.S.
