Dear editor, Grants Fire & Rescue would like to take this opportunity to allow us to provide a safety inspection of your commercial building in the city of Grants. We are making this out reach as we are going digital with our prefire planning, safety inspections, fire hydrant inspections, etc. for our community. We invite anyone to give the fire department a call 8-4 M-F (505-876-2245) and set up an appointment for us to come out and get to know you and your commercial building, free of charge. We will make recommendations and suggestions to better prepare all of us in care of a fire or other emergency at your building and will better prepare us, if and when you might need us to respond.

Hope to hear from you Robert Hays Fire Chief

Rain Gauge

Dear Editor, In the March 15 edition of the Cibola Citizen, there was an excellent article by Kimi Ishikawa entitled “Did it Rain Where You Are?” In this article, the importance of the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCo-RaHS.org) was explained. What was not emphasized was the importance of volunteers. Anyone can become a volunteer precipitation reporter, and Cibola County needs more! It costs about $35 to purchase the standard rain gauge, which is really a bargain because it measures to the nearest 0.01 inch. Once the station is set up, there is very little work and no extra expense involved. It is interesting to compare one’s own results with those of others, and the information is used by the National Weather Service and several other groups. Right now, there are only about four stations in Cibola County reporting on a regular basis, so we definitely need more volunteers.

I encourage anyone interested to visit https://www.cocorahs.org for more information.
