Dear editor, The Office of Code Enforcement receives regular complaints from business owners that pay for trash dumpsters but can't use them because thoughtless individuals sneak over in the middle of the night, or sometimes in the light of day, and dump their own personal trash in them. Sometimes, when the dumpster is filled, they will leave trash or furniture piled around the dumpsters! This leaves the business owner responsible for cleaning up a mess they didn't make. Please be advised that it is illegal for any individual to dump their trash into any receptacle that doesn't belong to you. You wouldn't go into a store and walk out with a cart of merchandise without paying for it? So why would you trespass and place your trash into a dumpster that someone else has paid for? The City had to remove the dumpsters at the City Parks on Sakalares and Truman because every Monday morning the City workers would have to spend hours picking up all the furniture and trash that was left on the outside of the dumpsters after the dumpsters were full. This is littering and carries a $300.00 fine. The City has cleanups in the fall and the spring. We place large roll-offs all over the City, at great expense, and for the past two years most have been picked up half filled. Please take pride in our community and dispose of all trash, junk and rubbish properly. Robert S. Windhorst Code Enforcement Officer, City of Grants
