Things will be different this upcoming Valentine’s Day for many people due to the loss of a loved one to COVID-19, or another reason. This may be the first year one finds their mate or best friend no longer here to share this special day; it will be difficult.

We still have a Valentine hanging on our front door to welcome us home or people that come to our door. It was a gift from our granddaughter Mia for Valentine’s Day 2017. It has a brown cardboard heart-shaped rim with a red cellophane insert. It hangs by a string on a thumbtack pushed into the door. It stays up year round except for a change-out Christmas wreath each December.

Interesting note on the heart-shaped candy box is Cadbury Chocolates was not the originator but that was probably the most purchased and beautiful Valentine container. People kept them for years to store love letters and notes.

As I watched this year’s Super Bowl my mind kept wandering to our children and granddaughters and Valentine’s Day. I missed half-time as I was more focused on downloading Charlie Brown Valentines coloring pages for them. I recalled poor Charlie Brown going to his mailbox often, hoping for some Valentines cards only to find none.

I went back to the game about the 3rd quarter and saw the score and commented to Evelyn that the KC team so far was like Charlie Brown going to the mailbox.

“Poor analogy!” she told me.

I had to laugh.

I finished my coloring pages for each of the five granddaughters and sealed the envelopes for Evelyn to address and send tomorrow. She told me she too had cards for each of them and we could put the color pages in the cards to save postage. I mentioned and she agreed that they each need to get a couple cards from us and know during these trying times we still care and love them for always and for this...
