The new norm: ...I see the dawn!

It dawned on me that hopefully and possibly we will see the dawn of returning to a normal life as we had known before COVID-19. The rise in the number of new cases is slowing substantially and thank goodness the associated deaths have fallen. Johnson and Johnson can now distribute its new vaccine and that will provide millions more doses of vaccine monthly. Already millions have been vaccinated for COVID resistance.

New Mexico State Parks are now open to overnight camping although there are a few restrictions that I both agree with and respect. This allows people to get outdoors and offers some mental and outdoor physical relief that is long overdue, and surely welcome as the days get longer and warmer.

Another color has been added to our State re-opening guideline: turquoise. Perhaps the increase of freedom from social distancing will encourage participation to help achieve the fully open “green” stage. I hope so.

Some restaurants can open to minimal but indoor dining, again with seating restrictions; but it is good news. Museums and such are allowed to open with capacity and mandatory safety precautions: more good news. I hope we don’t run the yellow caution light on the way to full open and hit the red again. We still do our part: wearing masks, keeping six feet apart and often use hand sanitizer.

It has been more than one year that we have had the pandemic in America and I long to see it ended. I don’t dwell on how it does end but pray it will soon. We need to see the sunset on this pandemic and for a return to normal life I think...

... I see the dawn!
