Energy Independence

The United States needs to become better at being energy independent.

For decades this country denied that climate change was a problem, with scholars estimating in the early 1900s that it may take two centuries or more for climate change to take full effect. They did not account for the fact that American society would ramp up its production, grow its population massively, and pump more and more carbon in the air. Here we are, only 100 years later, and the effects of climate change are in full effect. If the water in Lake Mead, Nevada, falls below the height of the turbines, power generation will cease. This will be a disaster for the Western United States, especially California.

You don’t think this will happen? Take a look at Sichuan, China. There hydropower plants have seen receding water for years, and the water is officially below the turbines. The city is seeing massive power cuts, curbing the nation’s ability to properly produce goods. China has a very structured society where any deference from the acceptable idea of society is punishable by imprisonment or, sometimes, worse.

The United States is free. I thank God everyday for our constitution which protects our rights to life, liberty, and property. This may be tested, however, if Los Angeles loses its power thanks to climate change.

To counter the disastrous effects of climate change, Presidents Joe Biden has made a foolish plan. President Biden would like to see wind turbines all across the country. This is an unstsustainable solution. When the turbines bust, where will we take them? What will we do with them? It’s unsustainable.

The United States has an industry which can support all of our energy needs, a solution which was cut down by the hippy movement in the 1960s, international disasters also contributed to the fear of this great energy resource: Uranium. Cibola County would, could, and should be benefitting from the wonder of uranium. With just a small amount of the mineral, our country can become energy independent. We need nuclear power plants, which are totally safe and can be shutdown at a moment’s notice if necessary. New Mexico, especially Cibola, is the best place to house these power facilities. It is very rare when our area experiences any kind of natural disaster, making this a safe zone for the placement of these necessary power generators. I understand fully the dear of nuclear power, but it is safe, reliable, and necessary. Climate change is irreversible, it will continue to get worse. Our power generating abilities are in serious jeopardy, we need to act now. The western world’s power generation is at risk. Take a look at Europe today, energy prices are at their highest in nations like Germany, England, and France. Energy prices grew so high in Scotland that the Prime Minister just made it illegal to collect rent, this is being done in an effort to give people the opportunity to catch up on their utility bills. Vladamir Putin’s War in Ukraine is causing an undo amount of stress on the global energy supply. The European Union is asking the United States and Canada for assistance in getting natural gas to people’s homes so no one freezes to death this winter. This is not entirely due to climate change. Europe’s biggest problem is that, despite knowing the danger of doing business with a nation known for its underhanded practices, the EU made itself energy dependent on Russia.

Because the Western World believes in the ideas of Freedom, Liberty, and Territorial Sovereignty, the West is standing in defense of Ukraine. Because we are offering support to the embattled nation, Russia is actively working on undermining energy security in Europe.

As if climate change wasn’t a big enough danger to our planet, Russia had to go and undermine the right of Europeans to have heat this winter.

Look, I know we have a lot of domestic issues, but we are not really suffering, especially when you compare the state of the US to the rest of the free world. The US dollar is actually really strong right now, our inflation is not only stabilizing but it is not bad compared to the rest of the world. The US economy is strong, and the only reason we have to worry about energy security is because of climate change.

We can address this energy issue by switching over to uranium power. We can put hardworking Americans back to work, and we can revitalize this nation’s greatest strengths – its people. Let’s switch to nuclear energy. It’s our best option, because if we use wind turbines, it won’t be as effective and it won’t create jobs. The mining industry has safeguards that it didn’t the first time we were mining uranium, and it would be quite the boon to Cibola County.

Let’s get back to uranium mining. Let’s start using nuclear power. It’s beyond time to make ourselves truly energy independent.
