CITY OF GRANTS, N.M. – The charter for the City of Grants is a document which lays out the specifics on how the city can and should operate. The charter opens itself to present the fact that the city exists because of and for the benefit of the people who live inside of it. The charter ensures that the people of the city always have a say in the workings of their government by establishing that amendments or changes to the charter must be passed through election and giving the people the ability to elect their councilors and mayor.

There is a bible verse found in Matthew that says, “Blessed are the peacemakers…” I love this verse for a lot of reasons, but one of them is that it serves as a simple reminder to myself to always strive for peace. CITY OF GRANTS, N.M – In last week’s edition of the Cibola Citizen, we completed the trifecta that is the government of the City of Grants. With the establishment of the Grants City Council as the city’s legislature, the office of the Mayor and City Manager as the executive branch, and the office of the Municipal Judge as the city’s judicial branch, the City of Grants’ government has been formed. In the preamble, and first article of the charter – before even the establishment of the government – the charter declares that the primary focus of this charter is to protect, and to serve the citizens of the City of Grants; this is done by establishing that amendments to the charter must be passed through election, and that the charter is a restriction to the powers vested in the three branches of government, so they do not grow too powerful without the consent of the voters in the city.

CITY OF GRANTS, N.M. - The City of Grants Charter is a document that restricts the abilities of the local government, while establishing that government. The charter is not a document that gives any power to the city, but instead limits what it can do. The 32-page charter can be confusing, so this week we will explore the actual government and the powers restricted to them.

More on proposed gun legislation Dear Editor: The recent Fed-X shooting seems to be the current crisis for gun more control, who failed, the FBI, the local police, the local District Attorney, so much for the red flag law in that state. If you really want to stop this then ban mental people from buying a gun! Police: FedEx shooter legally bought guns used in shooting - ABC News (go.com) For years, people that tried to kill themselves, some with a gun, others stopped taking their medicine, or are heavy drug users.
