The 41st Mount Taylor Quad Kids was a joyous family event. What could be more fun than bringing families and community members together to have fun and to test their athletic prowess? The young people were engaged and put their all into their events; biking in earnest, pushing through the obstacle course, and running with all their hearts. Parents and other relatives cheered from the curbs to encourage their athletes. Dads even carried the bikes of their three-yearold contestants back from the obstacle course, while big brothers and sisters ran the course with their younger siblings to make sure they finished. Love was in the air.

Following the main event, four dads engaged each other in an impromptu event recreation of their child’s event by somehow managing to mount their three-yearold’s bike, complete with training wheels. Barely being able to pedal, they headed for the park, ran the obstacle course, and ran back to the finish line. No medals, just fun for all.

Each young athlete, upon reaching the finish line, received a medal. Those finishing in first place received a first-place medal, and all three finishers won gift certificates to local businesses. The firstplace winners also each received a new bike!

So now it’s back to training and working toward the 42nd Mount Taylor Quad Kids event.
