The number one ranked team in 4-A the Bloomfield Bobcats came to the Port of the Pirates last Friday and closed out the night with a 60-7 over Grants High School.

“It was a tough game against a very tough team--it was very evident why they were the number one team in the rankings,” said GHS head coach Steve Brown. “I did like how our kids fought for all four quarters----that’s something our kids have to learn to do again.”

The Bobcats scored 14 points in the first quarter and 27 points in the second quarter holding the Pirate offense to one touchdown in the second half on a 109-yard kickoff return by senior Knight Long to make the score 41-7.

“The talk at halftime was about being resilient and I wanted to see our kids resolve---were they going to fight or quit? I am happy because they continued to fight to the end,” said GHS head coach Steve Brown.

As far as the second half was concerned coach Brown added, “I was happy with our kid’s effort and grit---we saw a lot of things we could build and we will—it’s also necessary for us as coaches to focus again on fundamental football.”

The Pirates record drops to 2-1 and they will play the 3-0 Moriarity Pintos on Friday, September 8 in an away contest.

“Moriarity is a really good team and will definitely be a battle for us-we will have to play very well in all aspects of the game for us to have success,” said Coach Brown.
