With less than a month on the job, Kim Jaramillo, the new clubhouse, restaurant and event Manager at Coyote del Malpais Golf Course is busy planning multiple upcoming golfing and non-golfing events. She looks forward to expanding and upgrading the amenities offered at the facility to bring in not just more golfers, but more community members at large.

“We have a beautiful course—-we want have more group tournaments, fundraising tournaments and the community is asking us to have more local tournaments,” said Jaramillo The 18 hole championship golf course is approximately one hour from Gallup on the west and one hour from Albuquerque on the east. Jaramillo hopes to bring in more outside golfers from those areas with attractive prices, great scenery and new amenities.

“We are currently getting golfers from Gallup and Albuquerque—especially Gallup as their course recently closed– they really like it here and say our staff is friendly.”

Jaramillos hard work has recently bore fruit as a current upcoming event, a Father's Day three man scramble golf tournament, is almost fully booked with currently 22 teams signed up out of 24 spots that starts on Saturday. The cost per team is $150. At times not all team members show up to a tournament which allows individual golfers the opportunity to join a team that is short of a player at tournament time.

The Coyote del Malpais sits just below Horace Mesa. From the outdoor patio visitors can enjoy vistas of not only Horace Mesa but the sandstone cliffs and lava flows of the El Malpais National park, as well as Gallo Peak which sits above San Rafael.

With those amenities Jaramillo is planning on adding new menu items such as pulled pork sandwiches and chicken wings and perhaps live music on the colder months when golfing slows a bit with the idea of creating a place to “hang out” for local residents.

With a full liquor license, a sports bar theme may also be in the works down the road Jaramillo indicated.

Jaramillo encourages community members to enjoy a burger, a refreshment and play a round of golf at your leisure.
