GHS Boys Basketball Wraps Up Team Camps

GRANTS, N.M.The Grants High School Boys’ Basketball team recently wrapped up skill camps with a bang after winning the championship at the Lobo Camp last week at the University of New Mexico.

Head coach Lando Chavez is pleased to say the least and said, “We capped off the summer by defeating Albuquerque Academy 54-51 to win the championship at the Lobo team camp.”

Chavez summed up his summer team camp schedule by stating, “We had a great summer— competing in 3 team camps and finishing with a 11-7 record.”

He later added, “Our team competed extremely well against some of the state’s top competition.”

Chavez singled out a few games to highlight his teams accomplishments.

Adding, “We had close losses to Highland (last years’ state champion in 4A) by 4, Eldorado by 1 and ABC Prep—we had quality wins over St. Michaels, Miyamura, Los Alamos, West Las Vegas, Bosque Prep and now Albuquerque Academy —a distinct opponent.”

Chavez was overall pleased with the summer games, “We are excited the progress our players have made throughout the summer.”
