The Laguna-Acoma Hawks baseball team won their most recent games 8-1 and 11-4 on April 23 over district rival Navajo Pine High School (3-11, 0-2) after a recent string of losses.

“Saturday we went to play Navajo Pine and we were able to take both of those games. It took our bats awhile to wake up but fortunately our pitching did well for us that day,” said Gonzales.

Tyler Paul had an RBI for the Hawks in the first game and a total of five Hawks had hits in that game while Jonathan Sanchez pitched for the Hawks. In the second game, Tyreen Wheeler and Tyler Paul had RBI’s and Marallus Chee had two hits in that game. Pitching in that game were Jayden Paquin and Neal Kie.

After losses to district rival the Rehoboth Christian Lynx (16-1, 2-0) earlier in the month they also lost a double header to Gallup High School (5-14,0-8) “Rehoboth was a very good team and 10'd us both times,” said Laguna-Acoma head coach, Brandon Gonzales. “Their pitching and hitting was very good.” Reflecting on the loss to Gallup, Gonzales said, “We started off really well putting up four runs in the first inning and then they switched out their pitcher and we were not able to bounce back. Gallup's pitching out did us that day.”

Next up for the Hawks will be Zuni High School this Saturday, April 30 in a home non-district double-header (10-5, 6-0). “This is our third time rescheduling with Zuni, we are looking forward to getting these games in,” said Gonzales.

The Lady Hawks softball team is 10-8 and 2-0 after defeating district rival Navajo Pine (15-9, 3-2) in a double-header played on Thursday, April 21. Next up for the Lady Hawks will be an away district match up with Rehoboth Christian High School (3-9,0-0) on Thursday, April 28.
