The Laguna-Acoma Hawks received an eighth seed to the state baseball tournament in class 2-A and will face the Menaul/Oak Grove (13-8, 2-2) on Wednesday, May 5, at 4 p.m. “We look forward to playing against Menaul on our home field. The team has worked hard and is physically prepared for this game,” said L-A first-year coach Brandon Gonzales. “We just have to make sure that we are mentally prepared as well so that we do not ‘beat ourselves’ with mental mistakes.”

The Hawks enter the tournament as a 13-8, 2-2 and come off a recent 12- 2 loss to 3-A Zuni High School whose record is 11- 7, 6-2. “It was nice to finally get that game in with Zuni,” said Gonzales. The game had been rescheduled from an earlier date. The Lady Hawks softball team is 10-10, 2-0 and will play a district rival Pine Hill High School (0-6, 0- 4) on Tuesday, May 5.
