Grants High School football head coach Brandon Hernandez, who coached for two seasons, was released from his coaching position on April 17 by the Superintendent of the Grants-Cibola County Schools Max Perez, confirmed Grants High School Athletic Director Jaqueline Jones. Jones had no comment on his dismissal and also did not know when a search for a new head coach would begin.

Coach Hernandez also declined to comment at this point and time to the Cibola Citizen about his dismissal. Hernandez went 1-9, 0-3 in his first season and 1-9, 0-4 in his second season at the helm of the Pirate football program. Hernandez is also a 2016 graduate of GHS and a former quarterback for the Pirates during his high school career.
