After starting the weekend with a 5 AM departure to West Las Vegas high school to play in a tournament, the Lady Pirates softball team went 12 this past weekend. The Lady Pirates lost to East Mountain 11-3 and then defeated Tohatchi 17-1. In their third game they lost a close one to Taos, 12-10.

“East Mountain took advantage of early errors— they had 10 hits and striking out 8,” said GHS Lady Pirates head coach, Victor Aldaz.

“We dominated Tohatchi (2nd game) with Abhry Garcia having a perfect 4-4 at bats–4 runs–4RBI’s and 2 singles—- we had many players play well.”

When asked about the team’s loss to Taos in the consolation game Aldaz said, “The lady Pirates played their best game of the year—despite not coming out with the win.” Two lady Pirates, Melia Chavez and Abhry Garcia were named All Tournament.

Next up for the lady Pirates will be Valencia High School (1-8), their first district opponent.

“We are determined to compete with Valencia— we are confident of our abilities to come out strong,” said Aldaz.
