New Mexico United Announces Nicky Hernandez Contract Extension Hernandez won USL Championship title with San Antonio FC last season

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - New Mexico United is excited to announce that they have extended the contract of midfielder Nicky Hernandez, following his successful 25-day stint with the club. The new contract will see Hernandez stay with the club through at least the remainder of the 2023 USL Championship season.

'Nicky has come into the team and done exactly what we expected he could,” said United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. “He has shown that he is a hard worker, dynamic playmaker, and a terrific teammate. The United family is thrilled to have him with us.”

In four league matches since joining the club, Hernandez has already made a terrific impact. Most recently, he scored an excellent volleyed one-time goal on Saturday night that helped the Black & Yellow to a 3-0 victory over the top team in the Western Conference, Sacramento Republic FC. He has also been a key contributor for his teammates, providing the match-winning assist after entering late in United’s 1-0 road win over El Paso on July 1.

Hernandez won a title in 2022 with San Antonio FC. He made 24 appearances in all competitions for San Antonio last year, and was among the team leaders with five assists. Prior to his time in San Antonio, Hernandez played two seasons with North Texas SC, and was coached by United Head Coach Eric Quill.
