NMAA Board Met to Disciuss leadership, fees, and procedures for football

Association’s Board of Directors met in regular session on Wednesday, September 20th at 9am in the NMAA Hall of Pride and Honor.

Executive Director Sally Marquez gave her Director's Report which included information regarding the 2023 NMAA/NMADA Fall Conference, the fall sports season, and an introduction of two new staff members. Associate Director Dusty Young provided details about the upcoming Commission & Board elections.

CPA Shannon Gilliland of Taylor-Roth presented the organizational audit for 2022-2023. Business Manager Shari Kessler-Schwaner presented the NMAA Financial Report which included financials and ticket sales numbers for all 2022-2023 state championships.

Assistant Director Tammy Richards presented the NMAA Activities Report which included information pertaining to the recent Activities Council Meeting, an increase in participation numbers for most activities, calendar updates for state activity events during the spring, and an update on current student leadership regional meetings.

Commissioner of Officials Zac Stevenson presented the New Mexico Officials Association Report which included information regarding officials’ numbers, recruitment initiatives, collaboration between assignors and schools to ensure coverage, travel rings, the 2024 Summer Conference, the current partnership with RefReps, and the state championship official’s selection process.

Mr. Stevenson presented two discussion items which included information pertaining to the consistency of officials’ fees by sport and the procedures for assigning officials to state football contests. Ms. Marquez presented six discussion items which included information regarding classification and alignment, the appeals process, membership dues, forfeiture fees, scholastic eligibility and summer school courses, and semesters of attendance eligibility rules.

TheBoardofDirectorstook action on the following items.

-Voted in favor of a proposal to adjust bylaws pertaining to advertising/sponsorship during sanctioned contests.

-Voted in favor of a proposal to increase officials’fees for state playoff level contests.

-Voted in favor of a proposal to add a new qualifying standard for state wrestling.

The next regular NMAA Board of Directors’ meeting has been rescheduled and will now take place on November 29, 2023 (was previously November 30).
