Opportunities for Kids with Team Tapia Boxing Academy

GRANTS, N.M.- Grants High School hosted Team Tapia Boxing Academy on October 29 for the local community. All were welcome to come and see several bouts of boxing, as well as enjoy various festivities for the Halloween weekend taking place on campus. The event held was for the team to show the community what the gym is doing for the kids involved. The plan is also to have another event at the high school before the end of the year. It isn’t limited to this though, as the team participates in many events through USA Boxing. Whenever an event is scheduled to take place, USA Boxing will bring everything necessary to officially run it wherever the team may go. This gives the members involved a chance to travel and participate in boxing nationwide. Their goal is to give the kids in the community something to do that will keep them off of the streets and away from bad influences following the legacy of Johnny Tapia. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, they will even give their members the opportunity to go to their other gym in Albuquerque to spar with the team there. They encourage anyone interested to send their kids to learn with them. They accept kids eight and up in order to have them insured through USA Boxing.
