As of late the Grants High School volleyball team (10-8, 2- 1) has garnered three wins in a row and have moved into second place in 4A district 5, just behind St. Pius (7-9, 4-0). On October 7 they defeated Rehoboth Christian 3-0 (25-12, 25-17 and 25-14) in a non-district game followed by another 3-0 win over district rival Valencia High School (25-20, 25- 23 and 25-18). On Thursday, October 14, the lady Pirates defeated district rival the Highland Hornets in three matches (25-20, 25- 22 and 25-21) to put them at 10-8. “Our energy has been high and we want to be a competitive team,” said outside hitter Ebony Chavez, of the lady Pirates recent surge.

The lady Pirate soccer team is 6-9 and 1-5 after splitting their two most recent games. On October, 14th the lost to district rival, the Valencia Jaguars, 6-1 and on October 16 they defeated I-40 rival, the Gallup Bengals, 8-1. Chloe Rychener had 5 goals, Marissa Soto had two goals and senior Oliyah Murray had 1 goal in that game.

The GHS boys’ soccer team hit pay dirt with their first win of the season after defeating the Gallup Bengals (0-15, 0-6) by a score of 13-0. Beau Bruce had three goals in that match. Previous to that game the Pirates lost a close 1-0 district game to the Valencia Jaguars (6-9-1, 3-4). In that game, goal keeper, Adynn Knighton, had 19 saves to keep the Pirates competitive in that match.
