“We did pretty good against a solid 5A team,” said Grants High School Head Baseball Coach Mike Furbee about the team’s 8-7 win by the Pirates over the Sante Fe Demons (6-1) at home on Wednesday, March 8. Dominick Gonzales pitched five innings in that game with three strikeouts and one walk. Estevan Barela pitched two innings and had two strikeouts. Gabriel Marquez was three for five RBIs.

In the double header’s second game, the Pirates lost 0-2. “Anytime we can split with Santa Fe, it’s not a bad day,” said Furbee of that two-run loss. Izeyah Manzanares pitched seven innings and had seven strikeouts and three walks. Dominick Gonzales was one for three.

The Pirates hit the road and played Del Norte High School (2-8) on March 9. “We were [kind of] worried after playing a doubleheader and a quick turnaround to a road game, Furbee came out flat and never really got going, but did enough to win.” Gabriel Marquez pitched 6.2 inning and had 12 strikeouts and one walk. Andres Lopez was two for three BB and Diego Lopez was two for three in that game. The Pirates head out to Farmington this week for a tournament.

The Lady Pirates softball team is 1-5 after a 157 win over Shiprock High School(2-1) on February 9, and a 22-11 loss to Kirtland High School (1-1).
