GRANTS, N.M. - The Grants high School Pirates played a very strong game at home last week as they soundly defeated the Rio Grande Ravens 47-6.

“The kids played great,” said GHS head football coach Gene Riedinger.

“Our offensive line did a great job,” said Riedinger. “Our defensive line also did outstanding.”

Scoring 3 rushing touchdowns for the Pirates was Julian “JuJu” Fernandez followed by 2 touchdowns by Rey Chavira and Colin Lundstrom with 1 touchdown.

“I feel like I played great against them—could have done a lot better— got stuff to improve on though to get to better,” said Fernandez with a career high of 194 rushing yards in that game.

Freshman quarterback Antanacio Gallegos found Ryan Rael for a 25 yard passing touchdown.

“I felt pretty good about that game—we did our job. It was a good overall team effort,” said Gallegos of that game.
