As the March winds open up the Pirate Baseball team is six games deep into the season and is currently 4-2 as they dominated I-40 rival, the Gallup Bengals (1-4), 9-6 and 11-1 in a double header last Saturday, March 5 in their home opener.

Game 1

The Pirates were up early in the first game scoring four runs in the first inning, one run in the second inning and three runs in the 5th inning to lead 8-0.

Gallup remained scoreless until the 5th, when they scored three runs to the Pirates one run, making the score 9-3. Gallup scored a run in the 6th and two runs in the 7th for the final score of 9-6.

Pitching in that game for the Pirates was Izeya Manzanares, Markos Garcia and Mauricio Chavez. Freshman Delfino Gonzales scored three runs two RBIs and three hits while sophomore Izeyah Manzanares scored two runs, two hits and two RBIs. Andres Lopez, a junior, had three hits in that game and sophomore Cameron McDougle scored two RBI’s.

Game 2

In the second game, Gallup came out and scored a run in the 1st inning and then it was all Pirates after that as they scored four runs in the 3rd inning, five runs in the 4th inning and two runs in the 5th inning. Delfino Gonzales had three RBIs, three hits and two runs for the Pirates in that game. Izeyah Manzanares had one RBIs, three runs and two hits while senior Tyler Everhart had three hits and teammate Andres Lopez had two hits for the Pirates.

Pitching in that game was junior Nick Bustos with an ERA of 1.4.

Lady Pirate Softball

Lady Pirate softball split two games last Saturday, March 5. They played the Kirtland Broncos (4-1) and lost by a score of 15-1. Also, that same day the lady Pirates beat Newcomb High School (0-5) by a score of 18-3 and advanced to 1-4 as they travel take on the Santa Fe Demons (0-2) on Tuesday, March 8 in an away game.
