The Grants High School Pirates Track and Field team hosted a meet this past weekend. The Grants Pirates 2023 invitational had many local schools participating on a relatively calm Spring Day.
Top performers for the Pirates were Knight Long, with a first place in the 100meter dash with a time of 11.95; followed by Andres Lazos, in second place, with a time of 12.08; Knight Long also placed first in the 200meter dash with a time of 23.35; Bobby Perez placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.97.
John Paul Miller placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.38.
The Pirate boys 4x200 meter relay placed first with a time of 1:37.82.
Manuel Gonzales placed first in the high jump with a jump of 5-08.00.
Knick Long placed second in the long jump with a jump of 18-5.00.
Ty Mckee placed first in the shotput with a shot of 36-05.00.
For the Lady Pirates, Odalys Martinez placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 55.58.
Dezeray Valley placed first in the girls high jump with a jump of 4-02.00.
Odalys Martinez placed first in the 300-meter hurdles finals with a time of 55.58.
Shelbi Martinez placed third in the 300-meter hurdles finals with a time of 21.25.
The Lady Pirates also placed first in the 4x200 relay with a time of 2:11.35. Pirates placed first in the 4x400 relay race with a time of 2:11.35.
The Lady Pirates also placed third in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 12:47.98.
Hawks
The Laguna-Acoma Hawks track and field team also participated in the track meet. Notables for Laguna-Acoma boys track and field team were Tagoya Pedro who placed first in the 1600meter run with a time of 4:46.01.
Tagoya also placed first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:56.62.
In the sprint medley finals L-A placed first with a time of 3:57.53.
Demion Aragon placed first in the javelin with a throw of 120-04.00.
Kendrick Brown placed second in the shotput with a throw of 35-02.00.
For the Lady Hawks, Anika Lopez-Montano placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.04.
Tayla Vicente placed third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:14.41.
