ALBUQUERQUE, NM — In a federal court hearing, Daryl Jay Dickson, a 38year-old resident of Zuni, pleaded guilty to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The plea agreement, confirmed by the U.S. District Court, includes a requirement that Dickson forfeit his handguns to the government, part of the strict enforcement of firearm laws concerning convicted felons.
Dickson, who has a prior felony conviction, acknowledged in his plea deal that he was aware of the legal restrictions against him possessing firearms or ammunition. The firearm in question was a Heckler & Koch P30 nine-millimeter semi-automatic handgun with what court documents called an “obliterated” serial number.
The court has decided that Dickson will remain under supervised release conditions pending his sentencing, which is yet to be scheduled. He faces a potential prison term of between 27 and 33 months, followed by up to three years of supervised release, since parole does not exist in the federal system.
The case was investigated by the Zuni Police Department, with additional support from Zuni Fish and Wildlife and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary C. Jones is leading the prosecution.
This plea agreement, as detailed in court documents, shows that Dickson has waived his rights to a trial and will accept the sentencing range agreed upon in the plea.
