ZUNI MOUNTAINS, N.M. – A fire started around 10:40 a.m. on June 9, the fire grew rapidly, destroying structures and creating evacuees out of Cibola residents. At 3:50 p.m. the fire was 100 acres, by 9 p.m. it had ballooned to 300 acres.

Election Night Victories

Cibola County went to the polls on Tuesday, June 7 to elect the candidates they want to see go head-to-head in the general election. Few local elections in Cibola County were contested.

Massive Marijuana Sales in May

GRANTS, N.M. – City of Grants saw significant sales of marijuana in May. Marijuana is a quickly growing industry in New Mexico, and Grants is seeing a boom in sales since recreational use of the drug was legalized. Through the month of May, the City of Grants saw $165,851.

Funding Local Agencies

GRANTS, N.M. – At a special Grants City Council on May 6, the city decided to fund six local agencies. The agencies funded were the Cibola Arts Council, Cibola Communities Economic Development Foundation, Grants Pantry, Grants MainStreet Project Inc.

GRANTS, N.M. – In the early hours of June 2, a red truck crashed into a power pole off of Lobo Canyon in Grants, New Mexico. The accident disrupted power for several hours and left the power transformers suspended in the air, held up only by power cables.
