Nine groups seek lodgers’ tax funding

GRANTS, N.M. – The City of Grants Lodgers Tax Board allowed each applicant 15 minutes to present their funding request for the Fiscal Year 2021-22. Nine non-profit groups have applied for the upcoming funding cycle, which begins on July 1.

This week, in honor of the golden currant (Ribes aureum) shrubs blooming in the Los Lunas bosque and at the City of Albuquerque BioPark Botanical Garden, I am writing about hummingbirds in the garden. I learned from a local birder (I wish I could remember who it was.

SWA board meets six times per year

CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. –The Northwest New Mexico Regional Solid Waste Authority board meets six times per year. Three people represent Cibola County: Chair Larry Carver, Village of Milan, Secretary/Treasurer Robert Windhorst, Cibola County, and Martin “Modey” Hicks, City of Grants mayor.

First Street groundbreaking

GRANTS, N.M. - The City of Grants’ groundbreaking ceremony at the corner of Washington Avenue and First Street was held on April 19. Many prominent figures were present to celebrate the project. Phase Two will include closure of First Street from Washington Avenue to Roosevelt Avenue.

Mayor eager to re-open

GRANTS, N.M. – The City of Grants April 12 council meeting was eventful. The council voted to terminate the contract with former City Manager Laura Jaramillo.
