Neva Ann Merrick

Neva Ann Merrick, born on September 28, 1935 in Takoma Park, Marylynn passed away in Grants, New Mexico on January 11, 2021 at the age of 85. A memorial service will be held later with the immediate family. Neva’s wishes were to be cremated and her ashes spread on Mount Taylor.

Neva met and married Francis (Frank) L. Merrick in Springfield, Colorado in 1957 and their early years of marriage were spent traveling and living in many different communities as Francis worked as a dynamiter and surveyor with Century Geophysical. In 1972 Frank went to work for Kerr-McGee as an electronical logger in the uranium industry and that landed them in Grants, N.M. where they settled for a good many year and raised their two daughters.

Neva was active in church, politics, civic and professional organizations. Over the years she spent her career as a legal steno, real estate broker, and property manager. She was best known for her gift of gab, yard sales and her artwork.

She was preceded in death by her father: Lawton W. Luther, and stepmother: Ella Mae; mother: Cletis E. Bishoff; and stepfather: Lloyd; brother: Willis J. Luther; and step-granddaughter: Hillary Jaramillo.

Neva is survived by her husband of 63 years: Francis L. Merrick; two daughters: Ann Mattila and husband Randy of Grants; Laura Jaramillo and husband Mike of Grants; grandchildren: Marcie and husband Jeremy Chavez, Francis and wife Kristin Malaj, Michael Jaramillo; four beautiful great-granddaughters: Jenna, Natalie, Katelyn and Lyra; inlaws: Mickey and Joy Foster, Keith and Barbara Sanderson and Joan Richards.
