Andronico “Andy” Jose Alires, 91, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather and Korean War Veteran, passed away surrounded by his family on April 13, 2021.

Born on December 15, 1929, in Leadville, Colorado to Eloy and Eloisa Alires and was one of 17 children. At the age of 18 he was drafted to the Army, 7th Battalion, where he served nine months in South Korea. After returning home, he married his lovely wife Viola who forever held his heart and later had six children together. They were married for 64 loving years until Viola went to be with the Lord. Andy and Viola loved to travel, living in multiple states until finally settling in Grants, NM where he worked in the mines.

Andy was full of life, always did his best to keep a smile on his face regardless of the situation. He was a fighter, until his very last day he kept pushing, letting everyone know just how strong he was. He loved to dance though, it did not matter what type of music was playing, once he heard the noise he had to boogie. He loved making others smile, there was never a dull moment with him, and he sure did have a pocket full of jokes that he was not shy of sharing. He loved the Lord with all of his heart, his favorite verse was Psalm 23, which he held dear to his heart. Most of all he, loved being surrounded by his loved ones, nothing put a bigger smile on his face then seeing those he loved. He never failed to remind you just how beautiful and handsome you were which is something we will hold dearly in our hearts forever; he was truly one of a kind and to have known him was an honor. We will love and miss him always.
