John Thomas Vernon was born in Pontiac, Michigan to Thomas Vernon and Mildred Good on November 2, 1942. John is a long-time resident of Cibola County residing mainly in San Rafael. In 1959 John found himself in Truth or Consequences, NM, he was traveling through as he had an opportunity to play minor league baseball, although this was a huge opportunity; he met his soon to be wife Sharon, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage together. He joined the US Army and took a tour to Germany. Upon his return, he always received odd jobs, but seemed to gravitate to Law Enforcement. He spent 40+ years in Law Enforcement in different entities. One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming “Major” and Chief of Security of WNMCF in Grants. He completed 25+years, ultimately retiring with the State of New Mexico in 2003. John is survived by his wife Sharon, sister Diane Crawford, brothers; Tommy

Vernon, George and Ronnie Monette. He had six surviving children Tammy Valley, John T Vernon Jr and wife Ginger, Michael Vernon and partner John Lucero, Melissa Vernon, Shawnee Yates and husband

Roy, Niki Grimes and husband Jeff. He had 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death

He is preceded in death with his parents Thomas and Mildred, one brother Keith Monette, and one grandchild Joshua Vernon.
