Jose ‘Joe’ M. Marez

Jose “Joe” M. Marez passed away on January 9, 2021 in Grants, New Mexico. He was born on April 23, 1943 in Grants, N.M. He was 77 years of age. An inurnment of cremated remains will take place on Tuesday January 19, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Grants Memorial Park. Father Alberto Avella will officiate.

Mr. Marez was a retired miner and driller; he also worked in the oil fields for many years. He enjoyed woodworking in his shop. His truck was his pride and joy. He always made sure it was maintained and clean. He will be remembered for his duck tail hair style. He was deeply loved and will be missed.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Ruth Marez; his children: Lori Barela and her husband Larry, Theresa Marez and her fiancé Carlos Candelaria, Paul Marez and his wife Margie, and Eddie Marez and his fiancé Darlene Galindo; 10 grandchildren: Paul Leroy Martinez, Jessica Martinez, Josh Martinez, Juanita Herrera, Joe Jaramillo, Samantha Marez, Robert Marez, Steven Marez, Michael Marez, and Ryan Marez; 14 great-grandchildren: Jazmine Saavedra, Cheyanne, Shawn Martinez, Shane Martinez, Santiago Martinez, Kayden, Kaylee Martinez, Rhianna, Nicholas Elycio, Nya Herrera, Ilena Herrera, Saliesha Herrera, Ryker Saul, and Jaci Jade; one great great-grandchild is on the way; his siblings: Bony Marez and his wife Lucy of Grants, Cecelia Montano and her husband Wilford of Grants, Edwina McCray of Fruitland, Washington, and Prescilla Duran and her husband Carlos of Ocate, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Jose M. Marez and Gabrielita Garcia Marez; a brother: Leroy Marez; and a sister: Viola Baca.
