GRANTS, N.M. – Bryan Hernandez is a 17-year-old senior who attends Grants High School and plays football for the GHS Pirate Football team. Hernandez has been playing football since he was seven years old and now, ten years later, has been invited to play in a national football game with 110 other athletes from all around the nation.

The Spiral All-America Classic is a national game in which 110 talented high school seniors from around the nation come together to play in Orlando, Florida. The game is annually presented by the Spiral FBS Tropical Bowl event company and the purposes are both to highlight some of the nation’s most standout high school football players to recruiters and to honor those who have served.

The opportunity to possibly play in this game was first brought to Hernandez’s attention when a person involved with the game event had sent Hernandez a registration form link via Twitter. Part of the registration process included game film and clips being sent for the decision committee to evaluate. Two weeks after applying for the opportunity, Hernandez received an email informing him that he had been officially invited to play in the national game.

Hernandez described how it felt to be selected by saying, “It’s an honor to be a part of this once in a lifetime opportunity! I’m glad our school is getting more recognition like it deserves,” Hernandez’s family, friends, and members of the Grants community are expressing excitment for the young athlete and have already begun assisting with fundraising. Hernandez is currently selling World’s Finest Chocolate bars at Diamond G Home Center & Rental, custom cornhole boards and stove cover prizes have been donated by JoJo Archuleta from Archuleta’s Custom Woodworks for the winners of that raffle, a bean bag raffle has been started by Recreation Director Joaquin Jiron and Library Director Nadine Jiron, and “Angry Jack” scented wax melts are being sold by community member and family friend, Jeana Griego. Hernandez has also received money donations from other members of the community as well. “I couldn’t be more thankful,” expressed the All-America Classic invitee.

Hernandez thanks his family, his coaches, those that are helping him fundraise, and the community for all of their support, and he will be working hard at practice with his fellow teammates until December 31, when he will begin practicing with the other selected all-star players in Florida in preparation for gameday on January 2.
