CIBOLA COUNTY — In June 2021, Ella Mae Begay, a Diné elder from Sweetwater, Arizona, was reported missing. Her truck was last seen headed east, possibly toward Albuquerque. Almost four years later, she remains missing.

Countywide Burn Ban
A COUNTYWIDE BURN BAN is currently in effect. Per Ordinance 2022-033 Cibola County is under a countywide burn ban effective immediately until further notice.Prohibited burning includes any open burning and fire pits.

Fixing your pets can prevent overpopulation and reduce the number of animals abandoned

Animal Care Center Director Diane Rowe said “These right here are the reasons why getting your animals fixed [is important]. [These] five puppies [were] dumped in bushes. If you don’t want a dog, please bring them in during business hours or call, don’t tie them to the fence to freeze all night.”

School Board Meeting

There were two school board meetings, one taking place on March 18 and the other on the 25th. The first lasted six and a half hours, two hours which were in executive session, while the latter was nearly four hours and mostly executive session.
