Dear editor, I had the opportunity to participate with the Milan Spring Cleanup this past weekend. There was an amazing turn-out for this event! The Mayor, some Village Trustees, and other employees showed up to work hard and make a difference in their community! We had three community service workers that cleaned up ten bags of trash at Petro. I learned that Denice Baca, Village of Milan Clerk, received a very prestigious award from the State of New Mexico, naming her Clerk of the Year! This qualifies Denice to have a chance at being named Clerk of the Year for the whole United States of America. This is a huge honor that brings positive notice to the Village of Milan and Cibola County!

State of Affairs

The world is plagued by the shadows of authoritarianism and war, but recent cooperation in the US Congress offers a rare glimmer of unity and resolve for the American people. After months of political deadlock and increasing global instability, the passage of a substantial $61 billion aid package to Ukraine stands as a testament to America's unwavering commitment to democratic ideals and international leadership.

Crime Victim Assistance through the District Attorney’s Office

Body
All District Attorney’s Offices in the State of New Mexico have a Victim Assistance staff. Depending on the size of the office there may be one victim witness coordinator or more, all of whom are there to advocate for victims, to offer a secure, comfortable, supportive environment where victims, witnesses and their families are introduced to the services available to them as they go through what in many cases is the worst time in their lives.

I leaned over the stove, and the sweat beaded on my forehead. The pot had been cooking for hours, and the aroma begged me to sample it.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. Jesus of Nazareth preached to the Jews and Gentiles which at the time was unheard of as the Pharisees only taught the Jews.

My life has a geographic dividing line - the Mississippi River - with almost four decades living east of the mighty river and more than 30 years in the West. Most of my life has involved livestock.

The Postscript

Body
I was lying in bed the other night in the little apartment my husband, Peter, and I rent in Mexico, and thinking that things were perfect. Then I wondered what that meant.

Dear editor, Most health professionals would say exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. That’s why my husband and I walk our PreK aged son to and from school daily (other than a blizzard or heavy rainy conditions). It is on these walks on our small residential streets around Mt. Taylor Elementary that we are faced daily with an obstacle course of trashcans, portable basketball hoops, mailboxes, vehicles parked on the sidewalk and overgrown yard plants taking over the sidewalks. We are fortune that no one in our family needs assistive items for mobility such as a wheelchair. I can only imagine the frustration that people with disabilities feel when they leave their homes for a nice stroll outside. But where else are these items supposed to go? What are the city ordinances surrounding these issues? Placing items on the sidewalk creates obstacles that may seem inconsequential to people without mobility limitations. Many other cities have grandfather laws which is how they get around having to follow ADA compliance as those laws usually only apply to new sidewalk construction. The alternative for people with disabilities when the sidewalk is inaccessible is using the street.
