GRANTS, N.M. - Part I

Recently, news journalists have notified the public about a ship that’s been at – sea over seven months with one port-call. Negative reports are being received by relatives by the servicepeople: “The tour is too long.” “Morale is suffering.” “Fresh food is in short supply.” “Some toilets aren’t working.” “Unrest is growing.” There may have been a suicide attempt.

You can be sure that the noun “Home” is meaningful to the servicepeople. They miss their HOME. They miss their family. They miss their friends. They miss their pet(s). They miss their routines. They miss HOME!

HOME is a residence, a domicile, a house, a habitat, or headquarters. Why is your HOME important to you? You know. There are many reasons. Servicepeople call HOME wherever they’re sent. But, it’s not their heart- HOME!

This month’s first movie is about the drive, the passion, the goal, the need to be HOME. This need is universal. September 11th’s filmstory is set in another era and features people of long ago. These people valued school, the mind, learning and intelligence. And HOME. As movie viewers, we can empathize with these people who desire to be HOME.

Gather at the NMSU Library, Friday, September 11 at 1 pm to watch this film. At that time, you’ll learn the title. The settings will be different. The costuming will be different. But the emotions…. they’re what we humans always, share.
