Prescribed Burn Alert for Cibola County

ZUNI MOUNTAINS, N.M. – The US Forest Service has announced a series of prescribed burns in the Cibola National Forest. Some of the prescribed burns will take place in the Zuni Mountains of Cibola County. The Cibola National Forest is massive, spanning 1,562,542 acres – that’s 1.5 million acres.

A New City Charter for Grants

GRANTS, N.M. – Councilwoman Beverly Michael is heading the efforts to rewrite the Grants City Charter. A city charter can help improve governance in a limited geographic area by giving local officials authority to implement the best legal and administrative practices and commercial regulations.

A Celebration of a King Among Men

GRANTS, N.M. – The 17th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at the 515 W. High Street Cibola County Complex honored the remarkable civil rights leader. The Grants High School MCJROTC Honor Guard opened the ceremony by presenting colors followed by the national anthem.

GRANTS, N.M. – The Grants Community Pantry is preparing to move thanks in part to a $1.8 million dollar State of New Mexico grant. “The 71-year-old building wasn’t cutting it,” Alice Perez said.

FBI Seeks Information in Zuni Murder

ZUNI PUEBLO – On May 4, 2020, the body of Zuni Pueblo woman Jolynn Calavaza was found in an empty parking lot in the pueblo. After an autopsy, law enforcement determined Calavaza died due to multiple stab wounds, nearly three years later this case remains cold.
