Bluewater Lake and Fenton Lake State Parks reopen

Press Release SANTA FE, N.M. – Fenton Lake and Bluewater Lake State Parks reopened for day-use recreation on Friday, Sept. 11. The two state parks had remained closed out of an abundance of caution for the local communities and because these areas were experiencing high rates of COVID-19.

LAGUNA, N.M. – On Sept. 12, around 9:30 a.m., a New Mexico State Police Officer was patrolling Interstate 40 when she initiated a traffic stop at mile marker 130 near Laguna, New Mexico. The officer pulled over a GMC pickup, which was driven by a Scottsdale, Arizona man, Robert Benjamin Nelson.
Courtesy photo On Sept. 13 fire crews rushed to the site of a blaze at the Route 66 Tow Yard after being dispatched to a semitruck on fire. Grants Fire and Rescue joined Milan Fire Department and other first responders to put the fire out, working together the crews managed to extinguish the fire and to ensure the safety of all individuals in the area. Area residents and passersby’s on Interstate-40 reported seeing flames coming from the tow yard. The fire is still under investigation by authorities.

Homestake experiences spill

MILAN, N.M – Homestake Mining Company of California has alerted authorities to a spill of uranium-contaminated water. Despite the spill, Homestake officials say there is no threat to the people living near the Homestake site and that the contaminated water is being cleaned up.

GRANTS, N.M. – On September 13 around midnight Grants Police Officer Justin Ahlheim witnessed a vehicle travelling behind him spin out, according to a police report from Grants Police Department.

Fatal crash; Two semitrucks cause traffic delay

PUEBLO OF LAGUNA, N.M. – The New Mexico State Police were dispatched to the 109-mile marker, Interstate 40, near the Pueblo of Laguna in reference to an accident on Sept. 6. As NMSP arrived they discovered that one semitruck had crashed into the rear trailer of another semitruck.
