Saturday October 5th, we kicked off our 7th Annual Ford Bronco round-up, starting at Ed Corley Ford here in Grants. Owner Stacie Corley as well as sales representatives Fay Corley and Kevin Bennett welcomed the Bronco enthusiasts and invited all for a free donut and cup of coffee to start the day.
The Bronco owners in turn introduced themselves and gave a brief story of why Bronco. We had local owners as well as a couple from Albuquerque. The Broncos aged from 1972 through 2024. Seven Broncos lined up in front of the dealership for the annual photo op.
Evelyn then started the event by handing out game score cards for the poker run and dice toss, and 3” foam dice to the participants that had b..r..o..n..c..o.. one letter on each face, that would be rolled at each of six stops during the cruise to the Mt. Taylor summit area. A card would also be drawn. This game was sponsored by Tom’s Off Road in Medford, Oregon and this is their 7th year of prize support.
We then entertained all with a bronco barrel race of sorts. We had two participants that were surprised when they found out it was a timed hobby horse event around the parked Broncos. All applauded when three year old Brooks Brown smiling from ear to ear had the winning time, taking the stick steed around the course in record 49 seconds. He was awarded a small toy Bronco for his effort, which he promptly unboxed and played with. Second place was Ron from Albuquerque. He was awarded a Bronco ball cap.
On to the majestic mountain in the cool midmorning weather, stopping a couple times for dice toss and card draws. Then through the beautiful orange- yellow fall color adorned trees to the La Mosca peak area. There we awed at the beautiful view into southern Colorado and to the East to the Sandia Mountains. The haze and mild wind had delayed the ascension of the hot air balloons that are normally visible from where we parked. We rolled dice and drew a card and headed back to the dealership to finish the games including unscramble words from local Winch State Farm: “HRCSI’S NCIWH BLACAE”…. And that was the prize also.
Fay Corley awarded her Bronco choice of a gift from Champion Ford (7 year sponsor) in Gallup, N.M. as did Kevin Bennet. We ended the event with the song from Mr. Ed…… remember? A horse is a horse of course, of course, there’s no such thing as talking horse unless the of course the name of the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.
YEEE HAAAA Giddyup, Giddy up!
